Intuitive eating is not about shame.
To Eat Intuitively
To eat intuitively is to eat in a way that honours your body’s needs and wants for food.
Food as fuel, pleasure, comfort, celebration and social connection. Freedom from the food rules that can unnecessarily complicate one of our most biological needs.
It is not questioning the appropriateness of your hunger.
It is not negatively judging the level of your fullness.
It is gathering this information with curiosity.
It is noticing when and what your body is asking for.
It is honouring it with the same kindness and respect that you would extend to a friend.
Intuitive eating is not about satisfying an external set of criteria.
Nor is it about pedestaling your eating patterns above those of others.
When you eat intuitively you don’t overthink it.
You don’t need to earn it.
You don’t need to burn it.
You learn to become free from the inner torment that says you need to choose between birthday cake or health.
Intuitive eating helps you gain perspective on what health means to you. It frees up time and mental energy to follow more meaningful pursuits.
It allows you to live a life where ‘health’ is very much about enjoying that birthday cake.
Because health is about so much more than what you eat.
